Mary is very much a product of the new India: confident, forward-looking, and modern in outlook. However, she reckons some aspects of change will take longer. While Mary is unlike her mother, she goes to university, finds a good job, and making living for herself. She is much more independent, she has more rights to choose what she wants to do.

Young Indian adults have more financial freedom and thus more choices, the girls can have the right to choose their future husbands. For Mary, she likes her new identity, it seems that old traditions must make way for the new, Mary as the new Indian woman is positive about her future.
