This time-telling method in English is based on the 12-hour clock system, where the day is divided into two halves: 12 hours before noon (AM), and 12 hours after noon (PM). In this system, the hours are numbered 1 to 12 and minutes are usually described as "oh" (as in "twenty oh five" for "20:05").
